Tree Climbing
The tree canopy course covers methods of accessing the canopy (tree top),
work positioning, mobility within the tree canopy, rope ascending and descending
methods, rope deployment techniques, rescue techniques, assessing and controlling
risk and installing retrievable rope systems.
Training is designed to be realistic and customised to suit your particular situation.

Qualification
Successful trainees receive a Statement of Attainment for Working at Height (Tree
canopy access) which is recognised under the Australian Qualifications Framework.
All training is mapped to unit RTF3031A Undertake complex tree climbing.
Statement of attainment is nationally recognised.

- OHS legislative requirements (overview)
- AS 1891.4 (overview)
- Work positioning systems
- PPE selection, use & basic maintenance
- Fall arrest systems
- Rope management and housekeeping
- Installing ropes for climbing
- Assessment activity in tree canopy
Core Skills
- Deploying ropes into the tree canopy
- Non destructive climbing methods (no spikes)
- Patient rescue (one on one)
- Descending skills
- Ascending skills
- Mobility in the tree canopy
- Ability to work hands-free at height
- Using power tools at height (chainsaw ticket pre-requisite)
Enrolment
- Be at least 18 years of age
- Speak, read and understand the English language (unless accompanied by a skilled translator)
- and be able to understand and accurately follow spoken instructions (which may be given quickly or in windy conditions);
- Fit and healthy for working at height
