Tower Climbing and Rescue



Tower training is designed to enable trainees to work effectively on towers. Training is focused on methods
of accessing the work position, using double hook lanyards, fixed ropes or using fixed ladders (on communications towers) mobility at height, work positioning methods, hauling systems and more.The training also includes abseiling
& rescue techniques. Rescue procedures are focused on single-person techniques.Training is designed to be
realistic and customised to suit your particular work situation (eg communications towers, energy transmission towers, or chair-lifts). This course is suitable for anyone who has the requirement to access Towers or Poles of any kind within their work. Successful trainees receive a nationally accredited certificate and i.d card.

2 days (allow 2 x 10 hour days)

Location

On-the-job at an agreed tower site (practical training must be on a tower) or alternatively at Pinnacle Height Safety's training facility(real towers) in Brisbane

Equipment

Students should supply thier own PPE unless hire/purchase arrangements are made
Each trainee must have a double hook lanyard, work positioning type harness ,helmet ,karabiners, pole strap etc

Qualification

Successful trainees receive a Statement of Attainment for Working at Height
(Tower climbing & rescue) which is recognised under the Australian Qualifications
Framework. All training is mapped to unit MNMG237A Work safely at heights.

Training covers

  • AS 1891.4 (overview)(contextualised to tower environments)
  • OHS legislative requirements (overview)
  • Ladder fall-arrest systems
  • Work positioning systems
  • PPE selection, use & basic maintenance
  • Fall arrest systems (avoidance)
  • Using double hook lanyards
  • Rope management & house-keeping
  • Installing solid & reliable anchorage
  • Assessment activity in tower context

Core Skills

  • Abseiling skills
  • Ability to work hands-free at height (using pole strap)
  • Climbing with a double-hook lanyard
  • Patient rescue (one on one)
  • Assessment activity in Tower context

Enrolment

  • Be at least 18 years of age
  • Speak, read and understand the English language (unless accompanied by a skilled translator)
  • and be able to understand and accurately follow spoken instructions (which may be given quickly or in windy conditions); 
  • Fit and healthy for working at height
