Training

Falling from height continues to be one of the most common causes of workplace injury and fatality in Australia today. While it is not a legal requirement to have your companies staff accredited in Height Safety training, it is our belief that height safety training can substantially reduce the statistics of accident, injury and death in the workplace. Investing in training is an effective way to teach fall-prevention techniques so staff can perform their work effectively and with the lowest achievable risk profile possible. We can assist you in achieving your aim of a "zero harm" workplace with the provision of our nationally accredited Height Safety Training courses, customised to suit your unique industry / job requirements.

Our specialised competency based courses limit the amount of classroom based learning because we believe that real learning takes place when trainees can apply their skills in practical applications (ie ’hands-on’ training). All trainees will be assessed upon completion of the course to determine if they have met the performance requirements for the particular level of training required.

Areas covered in ALL courses include:

  • Hierachy of control - engineering out the need to work at height
  • Regulations and codes of practice
  • Effects of falls on the human body
  • Basic height safety rules such as fall clearance, swing falls and anchorages
  • Equipment requirements, components and functions for anchorage, body harness, connector, decelerator and rescue plan
  • Equipment selection and compatability
  • Equipment fit and correct connection
  • Equipment inspection
  • Use of equipment
  • Rescue planning and simulation

Our Training Philosophy

All training is performance (competency) based. All training is carried out against pre-determined criteria for working at height. The competency standards define the knowledge and skills required for effective performance in the workplace. Trainees must demonstrate that they are capable of performing the required skills to the level expected in the workplace.

Learning takes place in a progressive sequence

Our experienced instructors deliver training in a well thought out sequence which builds skills progressively. Simple skills are learnt first, then on to more complex skills which followed by further practice in a scenario-based context.

Practical Training

We place a strong emphasis on practical (hands-on) training. All courses contain some theory content but this is minimised because we believe effective learning occurs while actually performing the various skills at height.

Real work/job training

Our instructors are mindful that all skills taught must be relevant and tuned to the client’s particular needs. Training will always be conducted within a work context. For example, if a client requires skills to work on a roof, the training will be conducted on a roof. If the client requires skills to work on a telecommunications tower, then training will be conducted on a tower, etc.

Equipment

The equipment used will be what the client currently owns or has agreed to purchase. Skills will not be taught using obscure or exotic, hard-to-obtain equipment. The trainer will work to the current environment using equipment that is on hand and teach techniques that have been proven to work.

Enrolment Requirements

Trainees must be a minimum of 18 years of age, and be able to speak and understand the English language at a level expected for their workplace (unless accompanied by a skilled translator), There should be no medical or physical reason why work at height cannot be undertaken.

Pre-course learning material

All trainees are supplied with comprehensive learning support materials before the course commences. This enables a reduction in classroom time and enhances learning.

Statements of attainment & ID Cards

Trainees who successfully complete a course will be issued with a statement of attainment that is nationally recognised including a photo ID card. These recognition materials indicate the range of skills the trainee is competent to perform.

Student records maintained

All student records are maintained on our central database.
